THE SECRET LIFE OF GIRLS: CJFF Youth Media Program
Ragtag Cinema, Big Theatre
Oct. 17, 12:15PM

Filmmakers as young as 8 and from as far away as Sudan (and as close as our own backyard!), this collection showcases some of the best short films created by young women aged 18 & younger. Exploring everything from the hilarious to the heartbreaking to the sublime, all are a testament to the incredible talents of young women everywhere and several of these young filmmakers will be present to talk about their films, as will the coordinators of this program. Many of these shorts were made possible by youth programs dedicated to supporting young filmmakers and we are proud to showcase films from these fellow film lovers: Reel Girls, the European Cultural Foundation, Harvard-Westlake School, True/False Film Festival and UNICEF.

Contemporary Performance is hosting an online video festival of performance works and excerpts from 06.14.2010 to 07.02.2010. We’ve curated some of our favorite user submissions and online videos from today’s leading contemporary artists and embeded them here. The videos range in purpose and content and include rehearsal videos, process videos, performance documentation, lectures, made for video, dance on camera, video art, and vj.

Controllar, art-pop duo of Thomas Myrmel & Anat Spiegel, spent two weeks in residency at STEIM, studio for electro-instrumental music in Amsterdam. The focus of this residency was to further develop the unique combination of vocals and electronics used in their live performance. Filmed and edited by Vivian Wenli Lin.

sex industry, and some of them were forced into other kinds of

Home is a concept that is material, emotional and political. At the heart of the most recent economic collapse, the loss of homes became a major concern, not only from the perspective of people’s inabilityto secure shelter, but also in how within the context of the american dream losing a home became analogous to losing the promise of the capitalist might.

The lack of a home may be different than a lack of home; this series addresses the meaning of home and the definitions individuals, cities, nations and cultures work with when referring to such concept. Themes of displacement, (im)migration, uneven development, autonomous spaces, architecture and memory are recurring in the program.
