In 1999, softskin productions was created by Vivian Wenli Lin in a dark basement linear VHS editing room of Dwinelle Hall at the University of California, Berkeley after the completion of the documentary, i of MOTION..us of MOVEMENT in Loni Ding’s Ethnic Studies social documentary class.

Currently based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
